These are mortgages
available for UK citizens who are living and working abroad. If
you own a UK property and are working abroad you can apply for a
residential mortgage, even if this property is to be let for a few
years until you return.
One of the typical problems in
recent years has been that lenders have tended to limit their
maximum loan to value (or 'LTV') to 75/80% where expatriate status
is concerned. Some lenders now allow loans of up to 85% of
valuation, albeit on potentially less attractive terms.
However if a family member is to live in the property as soon as
the mortgage is taken you may be able to borrow up to 90%, or
possibly even 95%*, of the property value. Expatriate
Mortgages, are mortgage products designed to cater for UK citizens
who are living or working abroad (outside of the UK) and wish to
obtain a mortgage for a property that is situated within the UK.
